How to Encourage Employees to Ask for Google Reviews
30 April 2026 · Stellr Team
Your staff are your best review collectors. They're the ones interacting with customers at the moment of highest satisfaction. But most employees feel awkward asking for reviews. Here's how to make it natural.
Remove the Awkwardness
The number one reason staff don't ask for reviews is embarrassment. Fix this by giving them a tool that does the asking for them. A QR code on the table or receipt means the customer can leave a review without a face-to-face ask. Staff just need to point to it: "If you enjoyed your meal, that QR code makes it really easy to leave us a review."
Give Them a Script
Don't expect employees to come up with the perfect phrasing on the spot. Provide simple scripts they can make their own:
- "Glad you enjoyed it! If you have a second, we'd love a Google review — there's a QR code right there."
- "Thanks for coming in! Reviews really help us as a small business."

Make It Part of the Routine
Don't make asking for reviews a special event. Make it part of the normal checkout or farewell process. When it becomes routine, it stops feeling awkward. Include it in your staff training for new hires.
Track and Celebrate Results
Share review milestones with your team. When you hit 100 reviews, celebrate. When a staff member gets mentioned by name in a positive review, recognise them. This creates positive reinforcement.
Don't Incentivise With Money
Paying staff per review collected can lead to pressure tactics that make customers uncomfortable. Instead, recognise great reviews as a team and tie it to overall team performance metrics.
The goal is making review collection a natural, low-pressure part of your customer experience — not a sales pitch.
